Message from the Fire Chief
Palmer Fire District No. 1 – Palmer Fire Department proudly serves approximately 7,200 residents within a response area of 15 square miles. The Department operates from one fire station and protects a primarily residential community with mixed commercial and industrial occupancies.
Palmer Fire Department is a public fire department staffed by a combination of career personnel and paid on-call members. The Department currently holds an ISO Public Protection Classification rating of 5.
The Palmer Fire Department has been serving the community since 1885 and remains committed to providing professional fire, rescue, and emergency medical services.
Department staffing includes 18 On-Call Firefighters, 1 Department Photographer, 1 Fire & Life Safety Educator, 1 Deputy Chief and 2 On-Call Lieutenants. Career staffing consists of a Fire Chief, 4 Captains, 5 Firefighter/EMT-Basics, and 1 Firefighter/Paramedic. Operations are organized into four groups providing 24/7 coverage.
Palmer Fire District No. 1 operates under a Fire District form of government. Within the Town of Palmer there are four fire districts and three fire stations: Palmer Fire District No. 1, Three Rivers Fire District No. 2, Bondsville Fire District No. 3, and Thorndike Fire District No. 4. The Thorndike Fire District is protected by the Palmer station.
Emergency dispatch services for all districts are provided by the Palmer Police Department.
