Position Objectives:
Mill Towns Regional Animal Control is seeking a qualified and motivated Per Diem Animal Control Officer to join our team on an as-needed basis. This position is responsible for enforcing state and local animal control laws across the towns of Palmer, Monson, Ware, and Brimfield. The successful candidate will support the full-time ACOs during periods of increased call volume, vacations, or emergencies, and must be available for occasional evenings, weekend, or holiday coverage.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Respond to calls regarding stray, injured, aggressive, or nuisance animals.
- Enforce local and state laws relating to domestic animals and livestock.
- Capture and transport animals as needed.
- Investigate animal cruelty or neglect complaints.
- Issue citations or warnings in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Assist with shelter operations, including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring the health and behavior of impounded animals.
- Complete accurate and timely reports and maintain case files.
- Provide community education on responsible pet ownership.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement, veterinarians, and rescue groups.

Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant college coursework preferred.
- Certified Animal Control Officer (or willingness to obtain within one year of hire).
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and remain calm in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work in varying weather conditions.
- Must pass a CORI check
Desirable Training and Experience:
Prior animal handling and/or animal control experience are strongly preferred.More Information:
