Facts about leaks and water usage
Indoors
Turn Off the Tap: An open faucet will send about 7 gallons of water down the drain every minute. Don’t let the water run while brushing your teeth or shaving and save at least 1,000 gallons a year. Similarly, when washing dishes or showering, rinse, turn off the water to apply, soap, then rinse again.
Fix Leaks: Household leaks account for an astounding 13% of all home water usage. A single dripping faucet can waste up to 2,700 gallons a year. Less conspicuous are toilets leaks, which you can spot by putting a few drops of food coloring into the tank. See if the color seeps into the bowl- this represents water that’s going straight down the toilet.
