Firearm Licensing

Applying for a Gun Licenses:
All gun licenses are issued pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws using the state’s Massachusetts Instant Record Check System (MIRCS).

Applications for Firearm Identification (FID) cards and Licenses to Carry Firearms (LTC) are received by appointment on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.  

If you would like an appointment to apply for an FID card or an LTC, please call the department’s firearms licensing clerk at (413) 283-5804.

Free Firearm Safety Kits:
The Police Department has free Firearm Safety Kits available for all residents.  These locks are provided to us by Project ChildSafe for distribution to our community.  If you would like to obtain a Safety Kit, please stop by the police station any time.

Project ChildSafe is a nationwide program that promotes safe firearms handling and storage practices among all firearm owners through the distribution of safety education messages and free firearm Safety Kits. The kits include a cable-style gun-locking device and a brochure (also available in Spanish) that discusses safe handling and storage. Since 2003, the Project has partnered with local law enforcement agencies to distribute more than 36 million safety kits to gun owners in all 50 states and five U.S. territories. - See more at:
