NEW ZUMBA GOLD: Classes will start on Thursday, May 3rd from 1:15 - 2:15 and will be held every Thursday. Instructor Kelly Bergeron who is a certified Zumba Gold Instructor, Cost is $3.00 for Palmer residents and $4.00 for out of town. Punch cards will be available. If you would like more info you may call Kelly @ 413-335-5425.
THE WING AUDIOLOGY DEPARTMENT: Will be providing the senior center with low priced hearing aid batteries. These are zinc air batteries,  sizes available (#10, #13, #312 & #675). The cost will be only $2.50 for a 4 pack and will be available for purchase at the senior center beginning Thursday, April 12th.
BREAKFAST: Tuesday, May 22nd @ 9:00 a.m.: We will be serving breakfast. Menu will change monthly. For the April breakfast you must register by April 17th by calling the senior center. Cost is only $2.50 per person. Breakfast will be served at 9:00 a.m. Limited seating. Come on down early and have a good hearty breakfast with good conversation and smiling faces!! We will be having breakfast once a month and the date will be in the newsletter.
BRIDGE CLASS: Anyone interested in learning to play bridge and anyone who wants to come down and play bridge. Bridge will be every Monday at 11:00 a.m. We are hoping that this takes off and becomes a great group of players. Class will be taught by Nancy & Steve Ayers. Come join the fun!!!

Wii BOWLING – Come learn to Bowl with the Wii game system every  Monday at 12:45 with Betty. We are hoping to get a league together to play other area senior centers for a little friendly competition. If you are not sure you can come and watch to see if you might be interested. This is going to be a FUN time for all!! Not need to register…just show up.

COMPUTER CLASSES: Computer classes are now being offered at the senior center on Thursday's at 11:00 a.m. Call to sign up. Come learn what you've been trying to figure out from our two "experts".

VETERAN’S AGENT:  Our Veteran’s Agent, Paul Graveline, will be here to meet with you on the third Wednesday of every month at 11:00 a.m. Appointment necessary, call the senior center to schedule.

THE “DEPOT GROUP This is open to any senior who would like to join in the fun of just going out to have lunch together. We will go to a different restaurant the last Tuesday of every month. We will meet at the senior center for 11:30 or you can meet us there. Transportation is on your own or carpooling. On Tuesday, June 26, 2012, @ 12:00 p.m. the Depot Group will going to Dana's Grillroom (The old Sunset restaurant in Wilbraham). Come and join our group for a good lunch and a fun time! Please sign up at the senior center front desk by Friday, June 22, 2012.  For more information call Betty at the senior center.

Laugh For The Health Of It: Friday's, March 30th, April 27th, May 25th & June 22nd at 12:30 p.m. Laughter has many therapeutic benefits that will improve both the health and mood of us all. Have fun while boosting the immune system and relieving stress all at the same time!! Mark Sherry, M.Ed, M.A. B.A. certified laughter leader will bring us this wonderful program of fun and laughter. We'll play simple, fun, interactive laughter games designed to stimulate group laughter and improve health and well-being! Laughter can reduce stress, increase production of T-cells, boost the immune system, boost stamina and overall health, release endorphins and improve sleep and reduce snoring. HEALTHY LIVING WORKSHOP - "A MATTER OF BALANCE": Wednesday's, April 18th - June 6th @ 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.: This is an 8 week workshop. Trained at Greater springfield Senior Services, group leaders Stacia Cantin & Linda Lamay will conduct this wonderful workshop. Each workshop will offer information and lively interaction including: Recognizing "fall-ty" habits, fall prevention, safer ways to fall, and strategies to increase balance and endurance. A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. A workbook is provided and refreshments will be served. Be healthy and more physically active and have fun on a journey to better health. You must call and register for this program. Space is limited to 12 participants. FREE. Sponsored by the Palmer Council on Aging and The Executive Office of Elder Affairs.

TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR FUTURE: A LEGAL CHECKUP: Monday, May 14th @ 12:45 p.m.: The Palmer Council on Aging will be participating in the Massachusetts Bar Association's 2012 Elder Law Program. This is a free presentation. Among topics discussed are how to protect your home and assetts, power of attorney, health care proxies, reverse mortgages, Medicare/Medicaid changes, Aid and Attendance Veteran's benefits, and alternatives to nursing home care. Attorney Todd C. Ratner will be presenting this wonderful program. There will be a question and answer session. All attendees will receive the revised and expanded edition of "Taking Control of Your Future: A Legal Checkup" resource guide.

ANNUAL ART SHOW: Tuesday, May 15th @ 1:00 p.m.: Come down and see these wonderful paintings by local artists from our Palmer Senior Center painting group. They will be independently judged before the show opens. There will be snacks and drinks provided. Julie Strempek, instructor.

MA SENIOR MEDICARE PATROL - SMP: Wednesday, May 23rd @ 12:30 p.m.: Empowering Seniors To Prevent Medicare Fraud. Terrie Drew from MA SMP will present "How to Detect, Protect and Report Healthcare Errors, Fraud & Abuse". Healthcare errors cost billions of dollars annualy. Become an educated healthcare consumer and protect yourself and your loved ones against Medicare fraud and deceptive marketing tactics. Your input is crucial!!

MOTHER'S DAY/FATHER'S DAY CELEBRATION: FRIDAY, JUNE 1ST @11:00 A.M.: We will be celebrating Mother's Day & Father's Day together. We will have lunch at 11:30 and will be entertained by the Magic of Jonas Cain. Jonas has been performing magic for the past 16 years. His magic is a blend of illusion, comedy and storytelling. Cost is only $3.00 and you must register by May 23rd.

50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY PARTY: Friday, June 29th @ 11:00 a.m.: The Palmer Council on Aging invites all Palmer couples married 50 years or more to join in a very special 50th Wedding Anniversay party. We will honor these caring and committed couples with a free luncheon and celebration. We are looking to have a display of old wedding dresses, photos or any other items from your special day. We are also sponsoring a contest "The Proposal: Remembering How and When" - To celebrate our anniversary party we would like you to tell us the story about your engagement and how you proposed to your special sweetheart. We are asking you to tell us the story of your engagment in an essay format and let us share it with others here at the senior center. A secret panel of judges will select stories in 3 differen't categories; most romantic, most unusual & most creative. Essays must be turned in by June 15th to Erin or Betty. Winning essays will be announced at the party on June 29th and the winners will receive a gift certificate to go out to dinner. You must register fot the party by June 15th. Call Betty for any questions or information. Congratulations to all those married over 50 years!!
